First produced in 1969, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Skyline GT-R (PCG10). Based on the 3rd Generation R35 GT-R, the GT-R 50th anniversary limited release model will be produced until March 2020. The Premium Edition R35 GT-R 2020 model, rumored to be the final model in this generation, has been enhanced with special interior and exterior features.
Three different color schemes are available which pay tribute to the Nissan Works Colors used on the famous ‘Hakosuka’ GT-R racing cars. Wangan blue + white sticker color scheme is recommended for the 2020 model (aluminum wheels feature special blue spokes).
The interior features unique medium-grey color with Alcantara roof lining and stitching, and 50th Anniversary logo on center console, meters and kicking plate to mark the significance of this special model.
Although mechanical specifications have not been changed, new components in the 2020 model have been developed in conjunction with GT-R NISMO circuit specifications. Acceleration response and power feel has improved with the new turbo charger incorporating abradable seals. Optimized suspension with newly designed aluminum wheels (lighter weight but increased rigidity) combines to produce superior surface tracing driving precision.
Development manager Mr. Hiroshi Tamura says, “everything has been logically considered. Compared to the previous model, the spec is the same. But I am confident people will be amazed!”
The R35 GT-R was released 12 years ago, but it still performs at the highest level in every aspect. Nissan’s future development is focused on the development of electric vehicles, so this may be the last of the pure combustion engine GT-Rs.
