Nissan’s 2000 Turbo Intercooler RS-X sports sedan is a high-performance grade of the sixth-generation R30 Skyline with a rear-wheel-drive layout powered by the FJ20ET DOHC 4-valve inline four-cylinder turbo engine. Upgraded with an intercooler in 1984, the 1,990cc FJ20ET produced a maximum output of 205 hp at 6,400 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. Combined with a 5-speed manual transmission, it delivered standout acceleration even among Japanese performance cars of the era. Measuring 4,620 mm in length, 1,675 mm in width, and 1,385 mm in height, and weighing 1,235 kg, it was equipped with an independent suspension system featuring front struts and a rear semi-trailing arm, that produced not only strong straight-line stability but also well-balanced overall performance. It’s bold exterior design with grille-less front fascia earned it the nickname “Iron Mask.” The distinctive two-tone red and black color scheme further reinforced its distinctive identity. Rumors swirled of a GT-R revival, but the adoption of a four-cylinder turbo engine led to its release as the RS Turbo instead which paved the way for the GT-R’s eventual return. It stands tall even today as an iconic 1980s Japanese sports saloon and embodies the Skyline’s performance heritage.
