Focused on winning the Sports Car World Championship; the race series for commercially produced GT cars, Ferrari used its considerable resources and know-how to create the 250GTO racing sports car based on the 250GT SWB chassis and engine (GTO is an abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato, which means it complies with GT class race regulations). Recognized as an automotive ‘work of art’, series 1 of the 250GTO was produced in 1962/1963 and significantly improved with Series 2 in 1964 to compete with rivals. This included the 330LM model classified as a prototype because only 39 units were produced and was equipped with a 4-liter V12SOHC engine from the Ferrari 400 Super America (different to the original 3-liter V12SOHC). Achieving success in a variety of races including the 1962 series championship, the 250GTO’s highlight was its domination of the podium in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours. In the GT class where the main honors were determined, No. 19 won the class and finished second overall and No. 22 finished second in the class and third overall, while the 330LM was the overall victor. The following year and the year after that, Ferrari 250GTO won the Sports Car World Championship.

First launched in 1991, the Kyosho Original Mini Car Series showcases Kyosho’s long history of producing exquisite mini cars. Today, the series includes various scales such as 1/12, 1/18, and 1/43, but it originally started with the 1/18 scale. By utilizing this relatively large size for a diecast mini car model, the series has maintained its founding philosophy of accurately replicating the proportions of real vehicles while featuring high levels of detail in areas such as the engine and interior.

      • What is a Resin Model?

A resin model is a miniature car made primarily from non-foamed urethane resin and produced in small quantities. Unlike die-cast models, it uses a different type of mold which is suitable for lower production numbers and delivers superior detail and accuracy in reproduction.

    • When you lift the engine hood, secured with a leather strap just like the real car, you’ll find a meticulously recreated 3.0-liter dry-sump V12 SOHC engine. The model features precise details of the engine components, such as the wiring and six Weber 38DCN downdraft carburetors.

    • The interior features of the 250 GTO are accurately reproduced in the mini car models, free of any embellishments. Notable features include the shift lever base with Ferrari\'s traditional gated shifter and the large steering wheel with a slim wood rim, through which the tachometer is visible. The real car exists in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, both of which are accurately recreated according to chassis number.

    • The trunk lid opens to reveal a spare Borrani wire wheel, securely fastened with a leather strap. Further inside, the 250 GTO’s large 133-liter fuel tank (typical for a competition car) is accurately replicated. This level of detail is one of the pleasures of owning a mini car of this scale.

    • The doors, engine hood, and trunk lid are all functional, and upon closer inspection, even the quick fuel filler cap at the rear of the car can be opened and closed. The attention to detail exemplifies the high-quality craftsmanship of the Kyosho mini car development team, reflecting their dedication and pride in creating these beautiful 1/18 scale diecast models.
