Equipped with 2-liter straight 4 DOHC turbo combined with the 4WD system used in the mid-class Galant, the Lancer Evolution was designed with the compact Lancer body as a super sports sedan to win the WRC (World Rally Championship). There were four generations of Lancer through its 22-year history from 1992 to 2014, and the Evolution III was the last model from the first generation, winning both the driver and manufacturer titles in the WRC. As the model that drove Mitsubishi’s most recent golden age, the complete aerodynamics of the Evolution III enjoys a loyal following even today. The wide-open mouth of the formidable front bumper reduces air intake temperature to improve cooling efficiency while the towering rear spoiler effectively controls vehicle stability for high-speed handling. By increasing the compression ratio and modifying various components, and extra 10ps was added to deliver 270ps from the engine. A secondary air intake system was adopted to eliminate the turbo lag typical in turbo cars, further increasing its competitive edge in the WRC. Due to the success of the Evolution III, the Lancer became the marketing face of the Mitsubishi range.
