As the Legacy focused on expanding into Europe and America, the Levorg was developed as its replacement in Japan. Subaru concentrated all its formidable development energy and in 2020 released the 2^nd generation Levorg as the flagship Japanese sports wagon. For the first time in a Subaru car in Japan, this model adopted the Subaru Global Platform and a full inner frame structure. The strong body was achieved after a complete review of the body manufacturing process, including the use of structural adhesives and the use of ultra-high-strength steel. Other features include dual-pinion steering that produces precision operability and a ZF electronically controlled long-stroke damper that realizes deep ride feel. Subaru’s safety features and renowned ‘EyeSight’ driving support system have taken the next major advance with EyeSight X’ that enables hands-free driving. Initially, the 1.8ℓ horizontally opposed 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo engine provided the practical balance of power with fuel efficiency to handle most conditions. However, in November 2021, the previous high-performance 2ℓ turbo model was boosted by a 2.4ℓ horizontally opposed 4-cylinder direct injection turbo to meet the calls for more power. The Subaru Levorg has three spec grades: basic GT; mid-range GT-H, and sporty STI. Subaru continues to enjoy success and the Levorg was awarded Japanese Car of the Year for 2020-2021.
