As its factory works entries in the WRC (World Rally Championship) ceased in 1992, from 1993 Lancia entered through a collaborative works operation with the prestigious ‘Jolly Club’ racing team, founded by Mario Angiolini in 1957. Behind the wheel of the Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione with its proven engine and chassis was Carlos Sainz/Luis Moya (who won the driver’s title in 1992 with Toyota) and Andrea Agini and Sauro Farnocchia who drove for the factory works team the previous year. This miniature model is based on the Monte Carlo Rally specification No.5 car featuring Totip livery and driven by Andrea Agini that ran in the first round of the 1993 season. While he pushed up to 2nd place, Agini retired after going off track. In that year, Delta finished 2nd in the 5th round of the Acropolis Rally but also lost its main sponsor, Martini. Even with the master Sainz behind the wheel, there was insufficient support to close the gap with the competition. This was especially apparent in the second half of the series as Sainz attempted to extract more speed and consequently had to retire the car more frequently. After just one year, the Jolly Club and Lancia Delta challenge come to an end.
