The Supra sits at the pinnacle of Toyota’s production sports car hierarchy. It was 17 long years since the Supra history was paused in 2002, until the 5^th generation DB type known as the A90 became the first model released under Toyota’s exclusive ‘GR’ sports model brand. Following the 86 and its open 2-seater Z4 brother, the new Supra was also jointly developed with BMW. While development costs were kept down, the Supra evolved its distinctive long nose with short deck and fastback styling. The FR configuration incorporated a straight 6-cylinder engine into its aggressive stance that is reminiscent of the A80 model and the famous Toyota 2000GT with its double-bubble roof.

Only the engine and the platform are shared with BMW as Toyota maintained a completely separate design and development stream. While overall length is 140mm shorter than the previous A80 model (wheelbase is 80mm shorter), the new A90 is 55mm wider to deliver superior turning performance. Joining the established 3ℓ inline 6-cylinder twin scroll turbo (340ps increased to 387ps from the 2021 model) at the top, is a 2ℓ 4-cylinder twin scroll turbocharged version (258ps & 197ps). In addition to the current 8-speed AT, the long-awaited 6-speed MT transmission in combination with the 3ℓ engine version will be added to the lineup as the Supra continues to evolve as a pure sports car.
