The Sambar boasts exceptional strength and durability with its separate cabin and chassis on a ladder frame. The cab-forward shape provides comfort for two people and the rear engine and rear drive (RR) layout allows a low cargo floor with outstanding traction. Four-wheel independent suspension provides excellent handling that is gentle on both passengers and cargo, making the Subaru Sambar the optimal commercial vehicle that has been in continuous production with the same basic design since its launch in February 1961. Sharing the same RR layout as the Porsche 911, the Sanbar’s performance potential famously earned it the reputation as the ‘Farm Porsche’. Sadly, Subaru withdrew from light car production in 2012 and the Sanbar is now supplied by Daihatsu on an OEM basis. In the year prior to the end of in-house production, Subaru produced the ‘WR BLUE LIMITED’ to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the Sanbar. Featuring Subaru’s signature ‘WR Blue Mica’ made famous by the Impreza WRX in the WRC (World Rally Championship), the limited edition Sanbar also included WR blue-black colored bumpers and black seats with yellow stitching. With only a combined 1,000 units produced in van and truck formats, the limited edition sold out immediately and is still a popular model on the used car market.
