  • Description

In the early 1990’s the Skyline GT-R also know as the BNR32 dominated the Japanese touring car racing scene. Across the pacific in the United States, the Nissan Z32 Fairlady Z was leading the IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) GT Championship. Unlike the R32 GT-R that was dominating in Japan, it was not a modified production car but a fully-fledged racing machine with a space frame chassis covered with a carbon fiber cowl that looked like the Z32. While the engine was the same VG30DETT as the commercial model, output was increased from 280ps (300ps in the US) to over 700ps. The Z32 racing car made famous in the IMSA GT Championship was produced by American Clayton Cunningham Racing from 1990 to 1995. After struggling in its first year, continued improvements led to series championship victories in 1992 and again in 1994 with major victories at marquee American endurance races ‘Daytona 24 Hours’ and ‘Sebring 12 Hours’ as well as a respectable 5th overall (and class win) in the first attempt at the ‘24 Hours of Le Mans’. Demonstrating its speed and strength not only in the US but around the world, the Z32 earned a reputation as the most formidable machine in the IMSA GT Championship, resulting in the dominant VG30DETT engine getting banned by the Association in 1994. After its success in the IMSA GT Championship, one car was brought to Japan to race in the 1996-1997 GT Championship.

*This product is modelled on the class winner of the 1995 IMSA GT Championship ‘Sebring 24 Hours’.
